Beloved Educator’s Body found. Murderer still unknown

jody ricard

Beloved educator was found murdered in a wooded area outside the Red Cliff Indian Reservation. Who put her there and why? Investigators have tried to answer those two questions for fifteen years now.

Jody Ricard, 50 of Washburn Wisconsin loved life and spent her days helping others. She was very active and enjoyed camping and skiing. She attended her local church regularly and volunteered as an advocate for parents with disabled children. Jody also loved to teach. After homeschooling her children, she began to work in early childhood education. In 2003, she was teaching Native American children how to read and was the director of the Red Cliff Chippewa Even Start educational center. This is where she was on Friday, June 27, 2003, and it would be the last place she was seen alive.

Around 3 pm, Jody called her husband to tell him she should be home about 5 o’clock, but when she didn’t arrive her family began to worry. Investigators found Mrs. Ricard’s car still in her parking spot at the center. Her cellphone was inside the car, but her purse and briefcase were still in her office. There was no sign of the beloved school teacher. A massive search was conducted, and the local Native American community rallied forces to form search teams. All of the searches were futile until a man went searching for firewood near the Red Cliff Indian Reservation. In doing so, he stumbled upon the remains of the teacher.

Despite the ongoing investigation, the police haven’t been able to find the killer or a motive for the slaying of such a well-loved woman. If you have any information on this case, please contact the Bayfield County Sherrif’s Department (715) 373-6122
