How to overcome negative thoughts and get positive quickly:

I found this question on Quora.com. How can I overcome negative thoughts and get positive quickly?

Answer: Turn your camera

The camera lens can only capture the image directly in front of the device. Whatever you constantly hold in your mind will be what you experience, just like that camera lens.

If you go out and take a picture of a beautiful flower. You will see the colors and the beauty, but you will not see the weed growing right next to it. You may not see the trash dumpster that’s 2 ft away. You may be taking a close-up picture of a beautiful flower that’s actually poking through a broken sidewalk.

The point is, whatever you zoom that lens into is all you will see in that photograph. Your brain works the same way. Sometimes, we can’t see clearly when we take a picture, so we add the flash. Our brains do the same thing. Sometimes, we can’t see what’s happening because our emotions cloud the way. How many times have you gotten angry, and you end up having tunnel vision and can’t see the truth standing right next to you?

Tony Robbins says, “Where focus goes, energy flows.”  It’s just like a horse with blinders on. That horse only sees what’s directly in front of it. It’s up to us where we direct our focus. Where are you pointing that camera? My kids and I have a saying, “Turn Your Camera.” When any of us get too grumpy, we say turn your camera. Unfortunately, life has been pretty hectic for me lately, and my little girl has been reminding me Mom, turn your camera.

So I’m asking you, what are you focusing on? Is it happy things? Is it negative things? Is that something that’s going to head you toward your goals? The concept is you are in charge of that camera lens. You are in charge of what you take a photograph of. So turn your camera.

Save a Hero With Gratitude

Today is Veterans Day, which holds a special place in my heart. I’ve always felt those who have served this country in our military are heroes. Today, we honor our military heroes.

Unfortunately, our system knows how to program a man to be a soldier. They know how to program women to become warriors. Unfortunately, they do not seem to know how to deprogram them. We bring them back from war with deep psychological trauma. We throw them back into society and expect them to manage.

We don’t train our society to support the soldiers upon their return. With all of the social programming in our school system, surely we could train our children to embrace our wounded heroes. Unfortunately, most of the time, this isn’t the case.

I know this is supposed to be a post about gratitude, and today, I want you to understand how important gratitude can be. When you’re on the brink of death, a kind word of gratitude can literally save your life.

According to www.stopsoldiersuicide.org, veterans have a 57% higher risk of suicide than someone who’s never served in the military. Approximately 17 soldiers die by suicide every single day.

According to www.americaaddictioncenters.org, the suicide rate between 2001 and 2020 increased by 95.3% for veterans aged 18 to 34. These numbers are dreadful.

What if you could save the life of one of our military heroes? You can. Sometimes, all they need is a little bit of support. They need encouragement. They need gratitude.

If you have learned anything so far this month, I hope you understand how powerful gratitude is. Today, on Veterans Day, I ask you to use the power of gratitude to save the life of one of our heroes. Thank a veteran today and every day. Don’t just celebrate the lives of veterans on this day. We have 365 days in our calendar year. Show gratitude for them daily. Together, we can support our wounded heroes and decrease these terrible statistics.

The Top 3 Elements of Gratitude

There are three main elements to gratitude: intensity, frequency, and action. If any one of these elements is off, then you will not get the results you are looking for.

 Let’s start with intensity.

First, you need to understand there’s a difference between gratitude and thankfulness. One is merely words you repeat to someone or something once you’ve received something from that person or thing. Gratitude is a deeply felt emotion, not just lip service.

Think about it this way. Someone opens the door for you as you walk into the store. You mumble thank you, but you don’t feel a deep sense of gratitude. Most of the time, anyway. So make sure you feel gratitude while working on keeping a gratitude journal.

Some say to write three things you’re thankful for daily. In reality, you only need to write one. But you must have a deep sense of emotion for one thing. You might have to write five things before you find the one thing that moves you. You want that intense emotion of true, heartfelt gratitude to rise within you while writing your gratitude list for the day.

 The second element is frequency.

How often are you feeling that genuine, intense emotion of gratitude? Once a week? Once a month? Never? The concept behind a 30-day gratitude challenge is to build the habit of gratitude until you feel an intense emotion of gratitude daily. The more often you can feel gratitude, the better off you will be.

 the third element is action

if you don’t put gratitude into practice daily in your day-to-day life, it won’t do you any good. It’s just like knowledge. In the ’80s, children were told knowledge is power. That’s not exactly true. Knowledge is potential power. You have to use it first. The same goes for gratitude. You have to take action and implement gratitude into your day-to-day life, or it will not help you.

Gratitude Challenge Video Day #10

Surviving Christmas with Gratitude (Synova’s Attitude of Gratitude Series)

Transform your chaotic holiday season with this journal and 5 minutes a day!

Not everyone enjoys the holidays. After losing loved ones, it’s hard to continue with the festivities, but it’s vital to learn how to live again. After suffering through trauma, it’s hard to celebrate with a loud and rowdy crowd. Did you know a daily gratitude practice will change your life, both mind, and body?

Studies have proven that our brains literally cannot be fearful, anxious, or stressed and be grateful at the same time. Did you know that? The part of the brain that handles these emotions cannot do both simultaneously. It has to shut one off to open the other. Now you can be anxious and immediately grateful afterward, but you cannot be both at the same time!

What if you reprogrammed your brain to refocus on gratitude and shut off the anxiety during this season?

With a daily gratitude practice, you will do just that!

Are Your Memories Filled With Gratitude or Regret?

How many times have you looked back and realized you haven’t enjoyed the journey along this pathway called life? In my study of gratitude this week, I heard the phrase retroactive gratitude. I’d never heard it put that way before. Basically, it’s another word for regret. How many times have you had Life by the tail, and suddenly tragedy strikes, and you wish you had been grateful while you still had it? How many people are you thankful for now, but you haven’t told them? They won’t always be with you. Tell them now. You don’t want to stand over their casket and mourn the loss filled with regret.

The good news is gratitude can cancel out those feelings of regret and remorse. But it takes time to build the habit of gratitude. Things won’t always be the same in your life, and if you don’t take time to be grateful for them now, you may not have them in the next chapter of your life.

Building a habit of gratitude takes time, practice, and a little bit of ambition, but it’s not hard to do. It’s a simple process. It just takes some focus. All you need is 10 minutes a day and a notebook. I encourage you to join me on this 30 days of gratitude challenge. It will change your life and will help you come to the end of your life with less regret.

Start today by being grateful for your health. It may not be perfect, but if you take time to be thankful, you’ll find you feel better. It will also help you and encourage you to get healthier.

Be grateful for a place to stay. I spent a year having to live with relatives because I didn’t have a house. It sucked. I’m grateful that I have a home now. I kind of took it for granted before. Make sure you are thankful for what you have because you never know when it could be taken away. You don’t want to look back with regret; you want to look back grateful for the happy memories.

Gratitude: The Key to a New Life

Your life is falling apart, and it seems like there’s no way out, but then, out of the mists of despair, a strange dark figure emerges and hands you the key to a door. Behind that door is the answer to all of your problems. The money you need is there. The promotion you’ve worked so hard for is there. The chance to build a fresh new life is there, but you take the key and throw it into the ocean. It sinks to the bottom and rests in the damp darkness, waiting for another soul to long for it. Then, it will emerge again and see if the next soul is courageous enough to use it.

Now, it’s your turn. The ancient key is in your hands. You flip it over, and one word is engraved on it. “Gratitude”

It may sound like a scene from a fantasy fiction movie, but in reality, Gratitude is the key that will open the door to a better life. No, it can’t guarantee you everything you desire, but it will open the door. It’s up to you if you choose to step through that doorway.

Change Your Life By Focusing on Gratitude

Image by Deborah Hudson from Pixabay

Did you know having an attitude of gratitude can literally save your life? It can lower blood pressure, drop your pain levels, and give you better sleep!

Here in America, we are getting close to Thanksgiving, but I’m sad to say gratitude is usually the last thought on our minds. It shouldn’t be that way. We focus on getting ready for family and friends to come over. We focus on cooking and cleaning, and travel plans. But gratitude is the last on the list.

You see, when we spend time in gratitude, we literally change our own biochemistry. Every negative thought sends cortisol and adrenaline pouring into our veins. On the other hand, every positive thought sends out good hormones like dopamine, serotonin, oxytocin, and endorphins.

  • Dopamine: enhances learning, focus, and motivation
  • Endorphins: triggers feelings of happiness and bliss
  • Oxytocin: empathy hormone makes you feel more connected to the world around you.
  • Serotonin: regulates attention, behavior, and body temperature

Studies show that people who practice gratitude regularly have 20% more gray matter than those who stay in a constant state of stress.

“In everything, give thanks…”

It does not say to give thanks FOR everything. It says IN. It means that despite everything going wrong, find something you can be grateful for. Why? It literally changes our biochemistry, our behavior, and our health. I hope you take the time to adopt an attitude of gratitude this holiday season.
