Death In the Shower – The Heather Turner Story

A Georgia woman tells friends she’s ready to leave her tumultuous relationship, but winds up dead in the shower before she can make her escape. It seems like an obvious homicide on the surface, but after seven years this case is still classed as undetermined.

Heather Turner, 37 from Dallas, Georgia was having marital problems and confided in family and friends about it. She even told someone that she was leaving the next morning, but she would never get the chance to go.

At 5:30 a.m. a gunshot is heard from the bathroom. 911 was not called until 6:00 a.m. The coroner’s report mentions the fact that it looked like the bathroom had been cleaned before they got there. Did Heather die by her own hand, or was this a homicide?

Heather & Andy met in church when they were both married to someone else. Andy Turner was the youth pastor and began counseling Heather when she began having marriage problems. After a while more transpired and the two began having an affair. Both ended up in a divorce and they wound up marrying each other. Life on the outside was pretty and perfect. The couple even gave out marriage advice on social media, but behind the scenes, life was very different.

The couple both had children from previous relationships and Heather ended up giving birth to a baby girl, but life wasn’t as easy as it looked online. Still, the facade held firm until May 4th, 2017 when this beautiful young mother was found dead in her bathroom.

A shot rang out in the house at about 5:30 a.m. No one has given an excuse why the 911 call wasn’t made until 6:00 a.m. Heather was found naked and wet from the shower with a bullet hole in her head. Andy finally calls 911 and the rambling call lasts 14 minutes. I will lay out the phone call for you. It is available online but it is very graphic in a few places so I must issue a trigger warning. I realize half of my audience is made up of victim’s family members and this one may be too difficult to hear. So I will lay out the basics of what happened in this 911 call below.

11:03 – Andy turns off the shower so he can hear the 911 operator better

11:20 – Andy: Mama!

11:48 – Andy’s mother gets on the phone to the surprise of the 911 operator

12:20 – Andy’s father gets on the phone and agrees to go outside and meet the Ambulance

14:07 – Call ends

After reading the highlights of the 911 call it seems obvious that Andy didn’t call 911 right away. Eventually, he would admit that he called his parents first. He says it was about 2 minutes before he called 911. There are still 30 minutes missing and he has never given an account for it.

The corners report states there are no burn marks or contact wounds on Heather. It would appear that she was shot from a distance. The corner also notes that the wall behind the toilet looks like it had been recently washed. Was someone cleaning the crime scene for 30 minutes?

All of it seems highly suspicious and then when you find out the day before, we have a court document where a local judge encouraged her to get a restraining order against her abusive husband. She refused and told the judge she was leaving her husband the next day. Andy adamantly refutes that this is not true and yet we still have the documentation.

To make this even more startling you’ll find out that her marriage to Andy was also brought into question. She confided in a work friend and told them that she was not technically married to Andy. He wanted to get married and she did not. Somehow the legal forms were filled out without her signature and recorded, making it a legally binding document. In 2018 the preacher whose name is shown on the document got on stand and said that it was a forgery. he said he never performed any kind of ceremony between these two people. Still, nothing is being done in this case.

There are so many more disturbing details in this case, I suggest you watch my True Crime Tuesday live video where I discussed these details and tried not to lose my temper. I will post a link to the video below.
